Abstract

Alloy steels is steels that consist of some elements such as Nickel, Chromium , Manganese, Molebdenum, And Silicon. One of the alloy steels that will be discuss is boden plate, an alloy steels cast product. It is one of excavator parts Series PC 3000 with DIN standard Material GS 32 – NiCrMo64 V, Base material of this Components is soft and ductile and has Rockwell number average 32 HRC ( Hardness Rockwell Number ). So the heat treatment must be applied for this reasons, the heat treatment Induction Quenching And Tempering ( IQT ) is one of heat treatment that suitable for this part. First the cast metal is induced until reach homogenous austenite temperatures 910 o C, and then cooled fastly until form the martensite microstructure that have mechanical properties hard and brittle, this process known as Quenching. Because of martensit hard and britle so the tempering process must be applied to this product in the tempering temperatures 600 o C that have purposed to release the internal stess ( avoid cracking ) and reach mechanical properties strenght, ductile, and toughness afyer the heat treatment induced quenching and tempering applied . After IQT applied to this product, the hardness of the product increase significantly about average HRC 52 on the surface of this material that affected induced quenching and tempering process. Combination of this heat treatment has best result mechanical properties of steels, strong, ductile and tough.
