Abstract

The quality of education in Indonesia today is quite worrying. United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 2012 report, stated that the education system in Indonesia ranks 64 out of 120 countries in 2010. Based on the results of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP, 2014), the quality of human resources in Indonesia ranks 121 out of 208 countries. It seems clear that there is serious problem in the quality of education in Indonesia both formal and informal education. This study aims to examine the education system in Indonesia and then find the cause of the poor quality of education in Indonesia. Appraisal results are expected to show a gap that needs to be fixed in the Indonesian education system. This study also shows that some efforts have been undertaken by the government in addressing the problem.
