Development of Mobile Dictionary with Speech Synthesis on Android Smartphone using Java Programming Language

Abstract

Currently the development of smartphones is increasing. Android is a smartphone operating system which gives freedom of floating applications (open source). English dictionary available today the majority of books, electronic dictionary-based or online. All that is constrained by time, cost and space. The purpose of this study makes an application dictionary that is not constrained by time, cost and place on Android. Stages in the manufacture of these applications include needs analysis, design, manufacture and testing of applications. Based on needs analysis has been done on the 35 respondents, all respondents mentioned the need to applying offline dictionary on their mobile phones. And as many as 31 respondents stated pronunciation function (speech synthesis) is required to know the pronunciation of words in the English language. Based on the results of testing and analysis of the 10 words in English and 10 words in Indonesian, a mobile dictionary to translate accurately and can perform the function of speech (speech synthesis). So that it can be stated 95% level of accuracy. Can be concluded that the application is ready to be implemented
