| Abstract: | One of the elements of culture is language which has an important role in social life. In a developing culture, mass media are a tool for getting information and knowledge. Mass media, newspaper, magazine, radio and television, are very useful for social life. Language has a great influence in sending message through newspaper or magazine. News may be looked upon as a commodity, for sale to consumers like cornflakes and cars. People buy news because it fulfills a need or desire. Purchasers of news want one or more of three services that news provides; information, education and entertainment. For example, a sport fan will look at the sports pages for information about the latest game results, as well as entertaining articles about teams and players. The same reader might seek education about political issues from the news pages or the editorial page (Daryl and Goege, 1996: 7). |
