| Abstract: | Aims of the research are to describe the omitted words in the ellipsis of Indonesian printed media headlines, and to describe the types of Indonesian ellipsis. This research employs a descriptive analytical method. The sources of the data are from three Indonesian newspapers and one Indonesian magazine. The data classified in four main categories and their sub categories. The research took 24 data of 100 data to be interpreted. The theories used in this research were theories of ellipsis taken from Henry Guntur Tarigan and the theory of headlines taken from the internet. The findings of the research covered two main points. First, the omitted words in the nominal ellipsis are determiner and noun. The omitted words in the verbal ellipsis are verb and verb phrases. The omitted words in the adjectival ellipsis are descriptive adjectives. The omitted word in the function word ellipsis are prepositional ellipsis has sub-sub categories are preposition and preposition phrases and the conjunctional ellipsis has sub-sub category is in conjunctions. Second, the types of Indonesian ellipsis are nominal ellipsis is in 44 data (44%), verbal ellipsis is in 13 data (13%), adjectival ellipsis is in 5 data (5%), and function word ellipsis is in 38 data (38%). Those types are related to the categories stated in theoretical reviews. |
