Developing Knowledge Sharing Portal (K-$Ip) For Academicians Using Open Source Software

Abstract

This paper demonstrates the means of exploring the lecturers knowledge needs and transforming those needs into features of a one-stop-centre web-based knowledge portal. This research was initiated based on the three knowledge sharing hindrances: (1) Absence of web based application (2) Design of Building (3) Design of Lecturer office room. A Knowledge Sharing Portal (K-$iP) powered by Open Source Software (OSS) is developed with features such: expert profile directory, downloading and uploading resources section with the intention to serve as a platform to share and distribute tacit knowledge. An analysis of data is presented based on the respondents result of pre and post survey and was further extended to an evaluation using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). These results illustrates the genuine user opinion and feedback on their acceptance towards K-$iP as point of reference of easy access and retrieval, distribution and creation of knowledge in supporting research communication and collaboration.
