Sistem Informasi Rental Video pada Rental Mercury Kupang

Abstract

This paper focuses on developing a system for Rental Mercury, a video rental that rents Video Compact Disc in Kupang. Rental Mercury is still using manual transaction for all of rent process, return process, film inventory database, and customer data. This system cannot support business operation of Rental Mercury effectively because manual transaction makes information difficult to get and also many human errors involved in the making of the paper documentation. The development of a system using barcode technology that can increase searching speed while guarantying the accuracy of data retrieved. The methodology used to develop this system is evolutionary prototyping. The modelling language that is used in this methodology is Unified Modeling Language (UML) Version 2.0. The system prototype is developed using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. The Database Management System (DBMS) that used in this system is Microsoft SQL Server 2000. In conclusion, this rental application using barcode to fasten process and helps to reduce human errors in transaction, and the rental application is used to keep film inventory database, customer data, and transactions in an organized repository. In addition, the application also gives suggestion to customers about another film whom has the same type with the film that the customer already rented.
