User Mobility Prediction in Bandwidth Reservation Schemes for Supporting QoS Provisioning in Multimedia Wireless Networks

Abstract

User mobility prediction plays an important role in supporting quality of service (QoS) guarantee for multimedia applications over wireless networks. As in wireline networks, the wireless network must also be capable of providing guaranteed QoS over the lifetime of mobile connections. In this case, a bandwidth reservation scheme is employed to maintain the connections. This scheme should integrate a user mobility prediction technique to improve the connection reliability and bandwidth eiciency of the underlying system architecture. The system is expected to achieve the required QoS requirements in terms of handoff call dropping probability and new call blocking probability while maintaining efficient bandwidth utilization. This article presents user mobility prediction techniques to achieve QoS expected Three different methods are discussed i.e., Received Signal Strength (RSS) measurement approach, individual user mobile history, and aggregate user mobile history.
