Abstract: The present paper reports the results of a numerical analysis of linear elastic fields in random com-posite materials. The effective elastic moduli of a realistic three-dimensional sample geometries of sedi-mentary rocks are computed by solving the microscopic boundary value problems for the elasticity case using finite element method. Various commonly used mixing laws are tested in light of the numerical simulations. No mixing laws seems to be able to predict the simulated behaviour over the whole range of elastic moduli contrast ratio.
