| Abstract: | This study aims at analysing errors occured in IELTS essay writing made by seven sample students. Those seven samples students were the writer`s students who studied IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with her in different classes in Jakarta. The errors analysed from the students` IELTS essay writing were grammatical accuracy, spelling, language style, vocabulary and coherence. The data were taken from the writer`s note as their teachers during the learning process, results of interview with the students, paper work results of students` IELTS essay writing, and results of evaluation of IELTS essay writing.
The results of the analysis were varied amongst seven sample students. Overall, there were 71 errors in grammatical accuracy, 27 spelling errors, 42 errors of language style corrected, 23 words errors in vocabulary, and individual comments on coherence analysis. As the interview was being taken, most of the students said that developing ideas was the most problem happened in arranging IELTS essay writing. Before the evaluation was held, the writer as the teacher did treatments to overcome the errors. After the evaluation was accomplished, it could be analysed that out of seven sample students, there was only one student who did not achieve maximum effort on it. On the other hand, the other six sample students could increase the ability shown based on their evaluation results.
After accomplishing this study and understanding the results, it is advised that students need to prepare their basic English capability before they are ready to deal with International English Language Testing System. Not only that, it is really needed to find better treatments to overcome problems of developing ideas. |
