| Abstract: | The aim of this study is to find out social problems especially social class
pictured within Charles Dickens’s works, they are: Great Expectations and Oliver
Twist. Dickens is one of the best novelists within Victorian Era, while this era is
argued as the turning point of British social history. Of course, it influenced the
economic, history, politic and especially social structure of British society.
By conducting a library research and descriptive qualitative research
method, The writer use sociological approach to analyzed Dickens’ works by
exploring and analyzing Great Expectation and Oliver Twist as supporting data.
The final conclusion of this study has resulted the fact that social class was
occurred during Victorian era and it portrayed by Dickens within his novels. The
social class disparity pictured within the characters occupation, the way of their
dressing, material wealth, obesity, th e authority, and live environments. |
