Issues and Open Problems on eControl Implementations

Abstract

In this paper, we identify related issues to eControl implementation and classify them into three categories, i.e. people and organization competencies, business process integration, and inherent technology limitations. We then address each of those issues subsequently. From the point of view of control theory, we notes that plenty of topics from control theory research has a very close connection to the problem in eControl implementation, namely control in system with time delay and a finite alphabet control. Next, we briefly address the problem of security and privacy in eControl implementation which has different and unique characteristic than general security and privacy problem. Moreover, the paper illustrates the activity of eControl implementation at Control and Computer Systems Laboratory in School of Electrical Engineering & Informatics, ITB. The objective of the activity is to explore problems in eControl implementation and to show the possibility of industrial-grade eControl equipment being developed in small-scale industry.
