Abstract: This paper presents PSS (Power system stabilizer) design based on optimal PD and PI fuzzy controller. The main motivation for this design was to stabilize and improve the damping of synchronous machine. A speed deviation is selected as fuzzy controller input. The controller output is injected into AVR. The controller parameters (Kp, Kd, Ki, Kupd, Kui) are tuned by PSO (power system optimization) to reach optimal stability. The optimal criteria of the Integral of Time multiplied by Absolute Error (ITAE) is used to search optimal setting. The performance of the proposed PSS under small disturbances, loading conditions and system parameters is tested. The simulation results show the comparison of PSS design approximation to damp out the system oscillations.
