| Abstract: | This paper discuss on the resource allocation for course timetabling problem in academic institution. In current practice,
open resources system is used whereby the resources are manage by the resource manager. The resource manager will
schedule the timetable based on the course offering into any of the resources regardless of which faculties the courses
belong to in order to efficiently utilize the resources. However these methods yield some disadvantage such as large
search space and this resulting in increase of the time taken for course timetabling generation and large amount of
student movement. Therefore, this paper proposes a mechanism to limit the search space by specifically assign the
resources required for each faculty based on the course offered. This paper provides a description and formulation of the
resource allocation for course timetabling problem. Preliminary results show that, the method able to estimate the
resource required by the faculty based on the course offered. This paper provides a formulation of the resource
estimation problem. Apart from that, the formulation could also be used to forecast or estimate the resources required for
future expansion of the Faculty or University. |
