CALL ADMISSION CONTROL FOR QOS PROVISIONING IN MULTIMEDIA WIRELESS NETWORKS

Abstract

Admission control and bandwidth reservation scheme is required to support quality of service (QoS) guarantee in the next generation wireless networks. The scheme is used to provide QoS in terms of call blocking rate and handoff dropping rate. In this paper, we propose a new scheme called AdQoS (Adaptive QoS) to guarantee the QoS by implementing a priority-based admission control system, a bandwidth reallocation technique and a priority-based reservation scheme. The performance of the scheme is evaluated through simulations of realistic cellular environments. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme reduces the new call blocking probabilities and the handoff dropping probabilities while still maintaining high bandwidth utilization.
